Here it is ladies and gentlemen, Proof that Power Metal is a shitty overproduced genre, and that DragonForce is leading this decimation of music by playing such awful music.
Now, Kevin's and Maxtodon's arguments will surely be something along the lines of,
"their lyrics are so much better than slayer"
"they write actual music and can really play their instruments"
well, since i'm lazy, and can only think of those two arguments, I shall counter.
For reference, please watch the video for "through the fire and flames live"
You will notice that they cannot actually play their parts for the song. They're absolutely awful. The drummer and possibly the bassist are the only ones who can actually do ANYTHING in that band. The guitarists are too busy drinking on stage to actually give a decent performance...but oh wait, even if they hadn't been drinking, I'm sure they would still suck.
Just listen to the quality of that song...and you all wonder why I hate powermetal?
because it isn't actually metal. Its just someone sitting in a studio recording one single idea, and then using a computer and several specialists to play with the idea, computerize it, and sell it to the world, claiming to be some of the fastest guitarists alive.
LIES I SAY

your logic is flawed: slayer > dragonforce does not imply death metal > power metal
additional preemptive note: devil's advocate does not imply agreement with opposition
I watched said video. I don't see the problem. Contrary to your post, they actually do play their parts for the song, in time and all.
A recording studio can only do so much, but I'll grant that they absolutely make DragonForce sound better, as they do EVERY band that comes into the studio. What would have happened if Pink Floyd and the Beatles said, "Oh no we don't want to use these clever new recording tricks you've got. This new sixteen-track stereo business can't be much better than the four-track mono we've got going now."
No. You take advantage of the studio. Don't try and tell me your crunching metal bands don't. If they didn't, you would not be able to differentiate any of the guitar/bass parts, and the master track would sound terrible.
Herman Li, one of DragonForce's guitarists, is widely acclaimed as a premier metal guitarist. He writes a column in Total Guitar magazine and has won several awards in his field. Don't try and tell me he is anything less than a fabulous guitarist, because that would damage your credibility beyond salvaging.
Lyrics are in the eye of the beholder. No intelligent person would make an argument based on lyrical "quality" unless one band is churning out impressively poetic lyrics regularly. Since neither of these bands do this, the lyrics point is moot.
Musical quality is similarly subjective. But I would like to argue that it is considerably more difficult, and absolutely shows a higher degree of musicianship for DragonForce to work so dextrously within a given harmonic framework (ESPECIALLY such a simple one) as they do in the solo sections of TTFAF. By comparison, the solo section of Raining Blood, Slayer's marquee chart, is a series of whammies and other atonal guitar noises. (Don't tell me a pro recording studio didn't program that to be the exact sound Kerry King wanted). Sure, it was progressive and ushered in a new era of metal. But what's impressive about Raining Blood is more the originality of the genre, not the quality of the music.
I'm sorry Joe, your absolutist, alogical arguments that basically consist of you passing off your opinion as valid without concretized evidence are not going to do anything to convince anyone who thinks about things logically, let alone anyone in 300B.
I especially enjoyed the part about how drinking nullifies talent. Here's why.
1. Joe said it.
2. Joe's favorite band, VNV Nation, can be quoted as saying something along the lines of "Uncle Jack, only you understand me."
3. The quote in point 2 is one of Joe's favorite mantras.
4. Joe said it.
5. Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Aerosmith ...Slayer... all clearly are vehemently opposed to intoxication.
6. Point 5 was sarcastic.
7. Joe said it.
8. Joe said it.
